two 41st birthday celebrations + housing situation at UCSC

I'm official 41 today. It's hard to believe how fast time goes because it still feels like I just turned 40 not long ago. I've been rather busy due to my classes, but my family did go to some grocery stores for snacks. Mom also made me a nice cake that we brought out after dinner. :-)

Of note is we already had an early birthday celebration for me on the 3rd because I was supposed to be at UCSC this weekend. However, I needed to come home for an urgent dental appointment after one of my crowns fell out on the 4th just as we were heading to school. It's nice to have a proper birthday celebration at home, although the downside is there were a few events at UCSC that I had to miss.

An unfortunate housing situation

I mentioned earlier that I'm taking BME 205 and BME 232 this quarter. However, there is some bad news: the Graduate Student Housing office wants me to move out as I had graduated in June. I've also been told that my concurrent enrollment does not make me eligible as that is reserved for regular students. Given that an hours-long commute to UCSC five days a week simply isn't sustainable, I may have to drop one or both courses. We're crossing our fingers and hoping the housing office will be flexible.

October 13 update: The housing office wants me to move out no later than the 23rd. I've made the difficult decision to drop BME 232 and stick to BME 205. Even so, two round trips to UCSC a week will be exhausting for all of us. I won't lie: everything seems so inconvenient when you don't have super speed in real life.
